Preparation is the key to safety! It's not just about SIV and wing control, it's about how you fly so you don't have to rely on the advanced skills.
Greg Hamerton, Chief Instructor
Why do you need this?
Because paragliding is dangerous when you rely on luck. By the end of the training course you’ll be able to recognise when to throw your reserve parachute, and how to do it. You'll know all the advanced rapid descent methods and SIV moves. You'll also understand the factors that lead to an accident and have developed smart piloting principles to avoid them.

Your SAFETY COURSE
Gentle preparation for extreme situations, so that you can develop expert paraglider control and stay safe.

Dealing with FRONTALS
How to induce them, how to fix them, and some examples so you can be prepared for the worst!
(07:50)
SPIRALS and G-FORCE
Spirals can be a huge amount of fun once you've mastered the method. This video introduces the demands of increasing G forces, and takes you through your first spirals.
(18:41)
BIG COLLAPSES and cravats
What to do when your paraglider collapses, in a big way. The standard method for clearning large asmmetrics, and how to untie a cravat, in the air!
(08:37)
Get perfect WINGOVERS!
Wingovers train your contact with the wing and brake control. But pilots often get surprised by the energy and can struggle to manage the speed, which can lead to trouble.
(11:38)
Rapid descent methods
What's the best way to come down in a hurry? I compare the methods and test other things you might have heard about, so you can find the right way to come down faster.
(18:13)
FULL STALL training
Understand what is 'beyond the curtain of fear'. It's a simple mechanical process that requires steady control with the correct release. Learn the method, and be prepared!
(11:19)
SATS and AUTO-ROTATION
A foundation of many acro tricks, the SAT also helps you understand the auto-rotation, which is a possible development of a bad collapse.
(04:56)
Throw your RESERVE!
Yes, it’s that time. I’ll show you the simplest method for reserve deployment. We compare the steerable and round rescues and study the safety procedures you need to know.
(12:54)
SIV in action: TWISTED
A great demonstration of advanced SIV practice, pushing the limits of spins and experimenting with recovery methods.
(17:33)
REVISION: Ask Greg SIV
It's collapsed! What should I do? Enjoy this in-depth discussion of all things SIV (Extreme Flight Maneouvres) to build your knowledge and refresh what you know.
(1:08:46)
How to avoid an ACCIDENT
Risk management, common causes of accidents, reducing the hazards, and tasks to improve your safety margins.

A scary flight: analysed
In this extended edition, I analyse an adventurous flight-gone-wrong and show you how to develop safety principles from this situation to apply to your own flying.
(11:39)
The deadly risk of CRAVATS
A sobering reminder of the real danger. Preparing yourself mentally for the right response is absolutely essential.
(19:28)
DUST DEVIL Landing
Watch a paragliding incident develop from launch to landing. See if you can spot the signs of a pilot who's going to eat the dirt, and learn essential principles for self-improvement!
(29:42)
Ask Greg: WHAT IF?
Mental training for accident prevention: learn how to analyse flying problems, and find solutions before they become disasters. Flight control, but with a twist!
(1:12:43)
FIRST AID for pilots
Mountain rescues, medical kits, accident management, and looking after yourself in the wild.

10 Simple SAFETY RULES
When things go wrong with your paraglider, it's good to know what to do. Leave the course with an action plan!

Know your stuff?
Watch all the videos, work on the practical tasks and get over 80% in the PILOT SAFETY test, to earn your FLIGHT LEVEL 9 certificate!
Who is it for?
This course blends SIV and mental training, so it is for pilots who are already proficient at basic wing control and want to prepare for extreme manouevres and avoid accidents in extreme conditions. It's best to complete at least Levels 1-5 before this course, because I expect you to understand wing control and there are important building blocks in Level 5 that prepare you for the advanced moves.
How does the course work?
This is designed as a week-long course. but you can take as long as you want. Every day, try to work through some new video lessons, but don't rush! Take the time to absorb each key skill. You can return to any lesson at any time thereafter.
What is included in the course?
Over 7 hours of scary video training! There’s also a task sheet for you to develop your skills, and a test at the end of the course to see if you can apply the concepts to common problems. If you get more than 80% you can earn your FLIGHT LEVEL 9 certificate!
Single payment or subscription?
PILOT SAFETY is available to buy as standalone course if you want to only pay once and get lifetime access to these lessons and any updates I make to them. However, most pilots choose to join the Flight Academy instead, which includes FREE access to ALL the course and will enrich your learning experience with livestreams, chatroom, discounts and a large catalogue of more advanced topics.
